We thought you might enjoy this summary of the most important rules of life aboard, designed to keep us all happy and sane. You might notice both a clear direction toward the kids, as well as their input (like number 10 maybe).
1. Though Shalt PICK UP THY STUFF. All clothes and other stuff should have a place and get returned to it immediately after use.
2. Though Shalt CLEAN UP AFTER THYSELF AND OTHERS. In the galley, salon, head or deck, take the time to wipe or sweep whatever gets left.
3. Though Shalt LEAVE NOTHING ON OR NEAR THY STEPS. It’s a painful tumble down them.
4. Though Shalt KEEP THY DECKS AND CABIN CLEAN. Dirt on deck will end up in the cabin, and dirt in the cabin ultimately ends up in your bed.
5. Though Shalt KEEP THY CLOTHES CLEAN AND WEAR THEM UNTIL THEY ARE REALLY DIRTY. Doing laundry is a real pain.
6. Though Shalt KEEP ALL THY DOORS, CABINETS AND DRAWERS CLOSED AND LATCHED. If you don’t, they will bang all night long.
7. Though Shalt LOVE THY TOILETS. Boat heads break, and when they do, it stinks! For starters, only 4 squares of TP per wipe.
8. Though Shalt KEEP THY HEADS CLEAN AND TIDY. Clean out soiled bowls and wipe down the door, wood, walls after showering.
9. Though Shalt CONSERVE THY RESOURCES. Turn out lights and minimize use of water.
10. Though Shalt NOT PASS THY GAS. It’s tight quarters, so for the sake of thy mates, step up on deck first.
